School Programs
Feet First staff and volunteers are working to increase the number of children walking safely to and from school.
Supporting families and schools is a core element of Feet First's effort to build walkable communities. Feet First supports school programs by:
- Organizing Walking School Buses and other events through our Safe Routes to School programs
- Providing training on international best practices in Safe & Active Routes to School across the state of Washington
- Establishing a statewide Safe Routes to School Clearinghouse with the Bicycle Alliance of Washington
- Serving on state advisory boards and national reserch networks to develop new resources and supports
- Guiding parents, cities, and schools with technical assistance
- Launching & coordinating Safe Routes to School programs at specific elementary schools in Seattle and supporting programs across the state
- Enriching new and exiting programs through partnerships involving the Seattle School District, Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Seattle, Seattle Police Department, WSDOT, SDOT, University of Washington, Harborview Medical Center, & the STEPS program
