Feet First Advises on Climate Change

Clinton Climate Initiative advisors come to Washington August 2nd

Auguest 1, 2006
Tuesday in Los Angeles former President Bill Clinton and several mayors will announce the "Clinton Climate Initiative," a major 10-year effort of the Clinton Foundation to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions by working with and through some of the world's largest and/or most innovative cities -- including Seattle.

The focus of the initiative is to leverage the considerable power of cities to reduce climate pollution, for example by establishing purchasing collaboratives through which cities can join forces to increase the demand for (and lower the prices of) climate-friendly products and technologies.  One of the main goals of the initiative will be to accelerate the transfer of best urban practices on climate protection to cities across the world.

Feet First has the opportunity to participate in and help shape this exciting new initiative when Ira Magaziner and Jan Hartke visit Seattle on Wednesday, August 2.  These two senior representatives from the Clinton Foundation are consulting with Seattle's Urban Sustainability Advisory Panel and Green Ribbon Commission to learn about our ideas and best practices.

Executive Director David Levinger serves on Mayor Nickels' Urban Sustainability Advisory Panel and worked on the Transportation Task Force that reported to the Green Ribbon Commission in 2005. Feet First promotes building walkable communities, which yields quality of life, health, and transportation benefits at the same time that it reverses climate change trends.
