Why Maps?
Feet First's Mapping Homepage
At Feet First, we see maps as ways to both celebrate and transform your neighborhood. We work with people from all walks of a community to publish our Neighborhoods on Foot series. In each community, we find that people identify with where they live and have passionate ideas of how to shape the future.
Kirkland Map for Comments
Feet First, the City of Kirkland, and community members of Kirkland are producing a Neighborhoods on Foot map for the entire city of Kirkland. A draft of the map is completed and we want your comments and opinions. You can view the map here, or find a copy at Kirkland City Hall or Kirkland Library. Please provide comments by July 20th, 2009.
Neighborhoods on Foot Series
Our "Neighborhoods on Foot" maps are periodicals -- in them you can read about important current events, up and coming groups, or how to put your finger on the pulse of the community. We reissue them with local support and participation. The cover side is rich with content that will increase your community quotient.
Maps can be picked up in the neighborhood for free from a primary location and many shops, cafes, libraries, and community centers. You can always find them at our office.
You may also view and download some of our maps online.

Food Environment Maps
In 2005-6, Feet First worked with T.T. Minor Elementary School faculty, staff & families, amazing Seattle School District nutrition champions, the Steps to Health King County program, and University of Washington ECOR researchers as a part of the "Eat Better, Feel Better" project. This special Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Healthy Eating by Design grant included a component that enabled us to focus on the connections between walking and eating.
Students there piloted a walking field trip approach to investigating the food environment. We learned first hand about the important link between walking and the food environment. We published a unique map of the food environment around TT Minor that also tells the story of the program.

UPDATE:
The most recent effort (released in 2008) by Feet First to map healthy eating and active
living is the "Community Mapping Kit for Healthy Eating and Active
Living". This was also a component of the "Eat Better, Feel Better" Project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. See more about the mapping kit here.
School Walk Route Maps
Mapping is a great way to promote programs. In Washington, schools are required to develop walking route maps around elementary schools. We think that this is an important opportunity to promote walking to school as well as safety. Contact us if you want help developing maps for your school. We can share everything from tools to help the pencil & paper volunteer mappers or ideas to inspire mapping professionals. See Seattle Schools Walk Route Maps.
The Green Map System
Feet First has been a force behind the online Seattle Green Map. If you are interested in volunteering for the Green Map and know something about online mapping, please sign up to volunteer.

Neighborhood Quick Maps
We routinely develop maps to support our re+walk events (walking audits), community celebrations, and for other purposes.
Volunteer Opportunity
If you have mapping expertise and want to volunteer on a project, we are interested in expanding our corps of volunteers and professionals.
